The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine expansion brings players to Toussaint, a land filled with fairy-tale landscapes and hidden dangers. Among its many secondary quests, A Knight's Tales stands out as a memorable story centered around a curse, a bleeding tree, and a mysterious witch. Players who take on this quest must navigate difficult moral choices to break the ancient spell and earn valuable rewards.
Starting the Quest and Investigating the Bleeding Tree
To begin A Knight's Tales, Geralt can pick up a notice from the notice board at Castel Ravello Vineyard or speak directly to Jacob the woodcutter. Jacob explains that a tree he attempted to chop down began bleeding, leading him to suspect a curse is at play. Inspecting the site using Witcher Senses reveals clues about the spirit bound to the tree, prompting Geralt to research local folklore and consult the Witch of Lynx Crag.
Confronting the Witch of Lynx Crag
Upon arriving at Lynx Crag, Geralt discovers the witch living in a secluded hut filled with magical artifacts. Players can choose to speak politely, threaten her, or attempt to break the curse without her assistance. Questioning her politely and offering a lock of Geralt's hair provides crucial backstory regarding Sir Gareth and the nature of the curse.
Resolving the Curse and Decision Branching
If Geralt secures the witch's help properly, he must locate Sir Gareth's remains in a nearby cave beneath Lynx Crag. Returning the bone to the tree and performing the ritual properly allows the spirit to find peace without unnecessary bloodshed. Choosing to threaten the witch or neglecting crucial steps results in tragic outcomes, where the spirit turns into an aggressive wraith or possesses a nearby beast.
Quest Completion and Rewards
Completing A Knight's Tales grants players significant experience points along with gold florens depending on the chosen resolution path. Successful completion can also count toward proving your Valor in the legendary quest lines of Toussaint. Additionally, exploring the witch's lair yields valuable crafting recipes and mutagens for Geralt's alchemy arsenal.
